Biography
Christina Papageorgopoulou is a Professor at the Department of Humanities at the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini, Greece. She is the Director of the Laboratory of Biological Anthropology and the Institute of Bioarchaeological Research in DUTH. She completed her PhD at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and her Master at the University of Florence (Italy). She has worked as a Humboldt Post doctorate Fellow at the Johannes Guttenberg University of Mainz (Germany) and as a senior researcher at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). She leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers working in the fields of paleodiet, paleodemography, 3D digitization and visualization and new computational tools. She has coordinated several interdisciplinary research projects (e.g. Horizon EU). She is the PI of CityLife (2024-2029) a European Research Council Funded Project that investigates the interaction of social, biological, environmental and historical processes that led to the universal prevalence of urbanism.
